1Choosing the right site for your hot tub

When choosing where to site your hot tub there are a few things you must take into consideration, please read through the following to ensure the site you have chosen is suitable.

Your new hot tub will weigh approximately 1,000kg (depending on model) when at its correct water level, plus the weight of any persons. With this in mind please ensure the base of the hot tub will be sitting on is solid, reinforced concrete slab or similar. In most cases existing patios will have adequate foundations to support the hot tub at its full weight. If you are in anyway unsure please contact us.

It is recommended you install your hot tub at ground level and with ample clearance around the sides to ensure accessibility to the spas internal cabinet for future service/maintenance purposes.

The base should be at least the size of the overall hot tub and level (must make full contact with the base of your hot tub) - see measurements for your hot tub at the bottom of this section. It is recommended that the base exceeds the hot tubs footprint to allow for easy user entry and maintenance access. This will also help eradicate soil splash from water flowing over the rim of your hot tub. You may also wish to purchase a gazebo or a summer house to shield yourselves from the elements when using the hot tub, this too will need a level hard standing.

Please also consider the distance from your hot tub to your electrical supply (more information in section 3 - Electrical requirements)

2Delivery Access

When preparing for your hot tub delivery please walk the chosen route and make sure the delivery path is clear and no obstruction is present.

Although our hot tubs are built to be portable long flights of stairs will require multiple persons to transport the hot tub up or down these steps. If any number of steps are involved please call Sutton Spas to discuss further, images may be requested in order to evaluate the type of delivery you require, i.e. 2 man delivery. You can also upload up to three photos using the form in this section.

Obstacles such as overhanging tree limbs, protruding gas meters, water meters, outdoor taps, cable boxes, overhanging cables, guttering and wires can prevent easy access. If your hot tub will be going through your house please consider radiators, door frames, door handles, shelving, sloped ceilings, wooden beams and any fixtures and fittings. It may be necessary to remove a gate, portion of fence panelling or other items in order to manoeuvre the hot tub into the desired location.

Please check the measurements on 90° turns to make sure your hot tub will fit through. Very rarely a crane is required for delivery when no other route is available this may be our only option, please call Sutton Spas should you think a crane may be required.

Please see the diagram below to give you a visual idea on what to check for.

3Electrical Requirements

All of the hot tubs in the RotoSpa range are 13amp 'plug and play' compatible meaning they can be connected to the electrical supply via a 3 pin plug.

As a minimum requirement the hot tub will need to be connected via a 3 pin UK plug to an IP rated, waterproof switched socket outlet positioned approximately 2 meters from the hot tub. This will require a 3 pin commando to 3 pin UK plug Conversion cable. These can be purchased from ourselves should you need one.

The hot tub will be supplied with a 3 meter 3 core flex cable with a male commando plug. You will require a female commando socket installed for this. Alternatively you can opt for the option above.

You should ensure the electrical supply is safe and up to current IET regulations. The circuit must be RCD protected having characteristics specified in regulation 415.1.1 of the IET wiring regulations. The hot tub will be supplied with a 3 meter 3 core flex cable with a male commando plug. Please discuss your electrical requirements with us to ensure we can connect your RotoSpa on the day of delivery. Please note if your socket is positioned to far away from the hot tub the cable may not reach.

For ultimate safety Sutton Spas recommends the spa is permanently connected (hard wired) to a 240V single phase RCD protected circuit via an IP rated rotary isolator.

Please note employees of Sutton Spas will not carry out any electrical works. This includes changing plugs.

Should the electrics not be in place on the day of delivery the spa demonstration will be given using a conversion cable. This will then be unplugged and the spa will be left off unless you wish to purchase the cable.

If you have any concerns regarding your supply please feel free to contact the team to discuss.
